Aranayake, a Divisional Secretariat of the Kegalle District was devastated by a landslide caused by heavy rains and a slow moving tropical cyclone in May this year. The disaster claimed the lives of nearly one hundred and fifty people and left several others homeless.

Embark, with financial support from Fondation Brigitte Bardot, conducted a sterilisation and vaccination programme in the area to create an effective barrier against Rabies and overpopulation of street dogs as the communities begin to rebuild their lives. We were overwhelmed by the positive attitudes of local health authorities and villagers themselves who, despite their hardships, were working with determination to get back on their feet.
