Let’s Make a Compassionate Sri Lanka: Animal Welfare Bill

The Otara Foundation, to which Embark belongs, has launched an online appeal, pressing the government to evaluate and pass the new Animal Welfare Bill in parliament. This measure is to ensure Sri Lanka, as a nation, has the necessary legislation in place to protect its animals.

The new legislature will replace the current outdated bill, which was drafted in 1906. The new bill was drafted and proposed in 2006 has been pending for the past nine years. The new legislation will protect animals in the wild, in captivity, also those that are domestic and stray. It will be a big step towards improving the lives of Sri Lanka’s street dogs.

A minute of your time can bring a lifetime of happiness to animals in need. Wherever in the world you maybe, you have the power to make a difference. Please sign the online appeal by visiting
